This is the recording of a screening and panel discussion of Monster Slayer, the powerful animated short documentary that premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, followed by a live conversation with the film's subject and creative team.

Monster Slayer tells the story of Stephanie "Monty" Montgomery's journey in the aftermath of trauma, assault, and stigma, told through her own gripping words and the animation of her visceral artwork and journal entries. In June 2018, Monty was raped at the Los Angeles strip club where she worked. When management and police failed to act, Monty channeled her rage into art: she rented a billboard overlooking the site of her assault, depicting herself as "Monty the Monster Slayer", a hero slaying the monster who hurt her, and calling out the systems that failed her.

Rarely has an animated documentary been created by its own subject. That firsthand perspective gives Monster Slayer an unflinching intimacy, putting viewers directly inside what Monty saw, heard, and felt. The film also confronts a conversation too often left out of the #MeToo movement: the experiences of sex workers facing sexual assault, and the stigma that keeps their stories from being heard.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Catie Skipp, Monster Slayer is currently screening on the festival circuit following its Tribeca premiere.
